Stake Conference

What an amazing stake conference we had this past Saturday and Sunday ~  President Coleman had us turn to Alma  32:28 and read to the end of the chapter...........substituting everywhere it said seed or tree with "relationship"..............He said this could apply to missionary companionship's, friends, family, marriages, dating relationships, everything!..............It was eye-opening...........He also said a very good friend who practices marriage and family therapy at BYU told him, "I have couples come in and begin by telling me..."we really want to save or in some cases improve our marriage"......We will read any book from cover to cover that you recommend."

He then reaches in a drawer and pulls out the Book of Mormon.  He has given this to members and non-members alike.............what was that statement Elder Packer said....."the study of the gospel will improve behavior more than the study of behavior, or something like that!

The spirit was so strong and bore a special witness that Heavenly Father loves us all equally.  ~~ even the "stinkers" in your family or group of friends, He loves them as much as He loves you!

An Eternal Perspective

A dear friend here at work offered this perspective............It has helped!

The Lord is preparing our country and the world for the Second Coming.  Mitt running has done wonders for exposing the church to the world.  There are very few people who can now say they have never heard of the Mormon Church.  As we are preparing missionaries to serve at younger ages and changing curriculum to meet that need, it doesn't seem coincidental.  Mass exposure to the church and a major upswing in the number of missionaries serving represents a hastening of the work.

If Mitt had won last night, automatically 50% of the country would be turned off to the missionaries when they knock on their door.  As if their job isn't hard enough, now the defeated and angry losing party would have a wholesome and healthy target on which to take their frustrations out.  Could the Lord afford to lose 50% of potential converts at a time when the work is ramping up?  I don't think so.

Mitt lost with grace and class last night.  The world saw a man, humbled by defeat but courteous, kind, cheerful... in other words, being the boy scout we have always known and would expect him to be.

If he had won, the world media would have over the next four years, taken everything we consider sacred and defiled it, making it the punchline of every joke on the late night TV circuit.  How would that have accomplished the Lord's purpose?  I don't think it would have.

I take solace in knowing that 15 men are called as prophets, seers, and revelators and that their response was sincere, kind and a class move.  They aren't concerned about the state of politics; they are concerned about the state of men's souls.  The state of the economy,if it continues to spiral downward will humble the proud and when their government fails them, they will be forced to turn to their creator.  I find comfort in realizing that we are raising a generation that will "bring the world his truth" and I think that Mitt losing, as painful as it was, may just have been the launching off point for the greatest conversion cycle in history.

2012 Presidential Election Perspective

I wept for my country tuesday night..........I've been struggling so much because I know the amount of faith, prayer and fasting that so many people have offered up to see our Nation recover.........but ultimately Heavenly Father sees the whole big picture..........I found comfort in reading of Nephi's own heartache anciently and realize God is in charge.......my part is to keep his commandments and lean on His mighty arm!

And seeing the people in a state of such awful wickedness, and those Gadianton robbers filling the judgement-seats-having usurped the power and authority of the land; laying aside the commandments of God, and not in the least aright before him; doing no justice unto the children of men;

Condemning the righteous because of their righteousness; letting the guilty and the wicked go unpunished because of their money; and moreover to be held in office at the head of government, to rule and do according to their wills, that they might get gain and glory of the world, and, moreover, that they might the more easily commit adultery, and steal, and kill, and do according to their own wills-

Now this great iniquity had come upon the Nephites, in the space of not many years; and when Nephi saw it, his heart was swollen with sorrow within his breast; and he did exclaim in the agony of his soul:

End of the Blog?

I hate to say goodby to my blogspot, but Facebook & Instagram have taken over.............who knows what new techno-media use will be in vogue next year!! (smile).....I've decided I've enjoyed Cathy Bubert's weekly letters so much while they have been serving in the Long Beach Mission, that I will try and cap the week's activities with a letter to my kids and grandkids.  This is the wave of the future, there are so many things I want to tell them that are important.  I want my legacy to add to the quality of their lives and especially how wonderful the Power of the Gospel can be in their lives, helping them through the good and bad times and enriching their lives beyond what they can imagine.

~Youth Firesides~

A couple of years ago I attended a Book of Mormon Quest Fireside that my daughter, Amy had gone on  with her ward youth ~ it was amazing! ............ I even went so far as to let my own Stake President know how great it was and hoped our ward youth would be able to do this in the future.  Well true to his word, our Youth had the Book of Mormon Quest two weeks ago and listening to them during our ward sacrament meeting, I was thrilled with how their testimonies had grown.
Last night, I attended my grandson's TREK fireside in his stake.........these meetings are unbelievably strong with the Spirit!  Watching the video and seeing these youth and leaders trek 36 miles in pioneer clothes, pulling their handcarts, listening to the stories and miracles that happened along the way ~ especially the power of the Priesthood and appreciation of women i.e., "Women's Pull".............Mason's testimony was succinct and powerful and I will never forget it.  He quoted his mom as saying before he left, "Mason, this is going to be hard, but you can do hard things!"...........He quoted what President Adams, their stake pres. told all of the young men on the TREK about agency.............."We all have free agency....and choices, but there is one thing we have no choice in, that is in the way we treat women".  Then he thanked his grandma for her example, (now I really have a lot to live up to!).....I know that Mason has a testimony of his Savior and loves his family.   As I hugged him before I left, I whispered in his ear....Living the Gospel will bring happiness to you.    The leaders of youth work hard to put on these testimony-building activities.........because they will be our future leaders in the Church.   I think we can all rest easy ~ this generation coming up will do what the Lord asks of them and do it with enthusiasm and great love!

Murmuration

Each fall, thousands of starlings dance in the twilight above England and Scotland .
The birds gather in shape-shifting flocks called murmurations, having migrated in the millions from Russia and Scandinavia to escape winter’s frigid bite. Scientists aren’t sure how they do it, either.

The starlings' murmurations are manifestations of swarm intelligence, which in different contexts is practiced by schools of fish, swarms of bees and colonies of ants. As far as I am aware, even complex algorithmic models haven’t yet explained the starlings’ aerobatics, which rely on the tiny birds' quicksilver reaction time of under 100 milliseconds to avoid aerial collisions—and predators—in the giant flock.
Two young women were out for a late afternoon canoe ride and fortunately one of them remembered to bring her video camera .
What they saw was a wonderful murmuration display, caught in the short video...

Cherylee~~

Cherylee my little sister by 11 years...........drove here with six of her grandchildren for a couple of days just to visit with Mom and her grandkids' Great-Grandma Perkins~~
We took Mom and all went to Zupa's and visited Tuesday night, she is an amazing gal--

she had them from 16 down to 2 1/2!!!
She is a smart gal too, swam them at Motel 6 - so they slept very well!

People talk about "self-made" men, but my sister is a "self-made" WOMAN!
She doesn't know the meaning of defeat....she's started many businesses and has been very successful.  One of her daughters told me she could sell ice cubes to Eskimos! (smile)

But the other side of her is the biggest heart outside of Texas.  She is a generous and amazing lady.  I'm proud of her and know the Lord looks fondly at someone who helps so many!

Jerusalem in Utah County?

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to visit the Goshen, UT BYU movie lot of Jerusalem.  I doubled down on Tylenol and laced up my tennis shoes tight because it was a lot of walking but oh, I wouldn't have missed it for all the world!  As many know on my bucket list is a trip to the Holy Land~~well I got an amazing preview right here in Utah!  Our Natural Resources staff was allowed to take a tour of this ~ we were there for three hours and I could have stayed another three~~ We saw sites where many of the previous movies on the Savior's life had been filmed as well as those built for a future movie on His life.  A good walk away we saw "Gethsemane", Garden Tomb, Golgotha which was incredibly built up on a cliff.....As our tour guide/sculptor showed us, much of the set's walls are made of sculpting dense Styrofoam and then placing some special cement over it.........this looks like real stone, or rocks..they expect to have this functioning for at least another 20 years and will keep adding to it.  The pillars on the porch of Solomon's temple was at least 1/2 a football field long, Solomon demanded a type of designer stone that common people could not use, all the stone used in the temple had to be carved around the edges like a special frame on them, the pool of Bethesda and the dusty road to Emaus ....  it was so incredible and like stepping back in time, the narrow little streets with doorways we had to duck to go into, the big thick wooden doors, aged with rusty hinges, the room where they filmed the raising of Jarius's daughter.....the balcony where Pilate looked down on the Savior.....the well where the Savior talked with the Samaritan woman...Our guide told us that the directors would walk all over and a lot of inspiration was given to where a set should be built and how..........the gnarled and twisted trunks on the olive trees in Gethsemane consisted of a process that was taught to the sculptors how to achieve, and they look so real!~~As we prepared to leave, they told us that tours were coming to an end for a long time now because of the filming schedule ~~ so we felt very fortunate and grateful we were able to see it.

another weekend come and gone............

Babied my hurt foot this weekend............lots of elevated foot/comfortable chair time............but it was nice to read and read and catch some TV as well.  I think it was well worth it, because I've been very blessed as I'm able now to just limp a little and throw the crutches away! (smile)  So grateful because it could have been much worse!  got to see Pearl's dance recital on Saturday, have some good phone conversation with both Dad & Mom  and watched again a wonderful film called "Fireproof" from Netflicks~~recommend it to every married couple ~~ it was really good!

Pearl turns 5 on June 2nd

I watched Horton kids while mom and dad a little R&R over the weekend..........Brooke, Kobe and I went down to Pearl's party.............Her cake was truly gourmet that she asked Mom to fix according to a cooking show!!!.........only Stacey would have attempted it with chocolate curls and all........delicious!

She got her birthday wish of a pink guitar and played for us just like her idol, Taylor Swift

FUN, FUN, FUN............Violet of course helped with everything including blowing out the #5 birthday candle~~

I think Pearl had a great week, she had both a California & a Utah birthday celebration this year!

June is busting out all over~~

June 1st~~~where did the first six months of 2012 go to?

Either life is traveling fast, or I'm on constant speed-dial~~!!

Mom, (Grandma Perkins), has been trying to save her foot now since last October.  This has been a trying time for her but she is hanging tough and I want her to know many many prayers are going up for her to have peace with whatever decision these health issues bring to fruition~~

I never realized how tiring it must be for her, because it is extremely tiring for me just watching what she has to go through.

What is that saying.........."old age ain't for sissies".......

true, oh so true!!

katelyn

katelyn's birthday was saturday, May 12th~

Her family took her to The Lorax and then I joined them that night for dinner.

She is so cute and now has her very own spray cologne ~~ oh what a girl's house the Lindsey home is!

Wednesay, the 9th was Violet's birthday,

Kel & Stacey had set up a photo booth and we all got to act very very goofy...lots of fun

we had delicious cake pops Stacey had made~and this year Violet didn't need any help getting the wrapping paper off!

Mother's Day celebrated all weekend long~

On Saturday, Kel, Stace, Jen, Jill, Amy, Pearl & Violet took me to "my first time" at THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY ......all I can say is wow!!!..........it was quite the experience..........first of all the menu takes a long time just to get through it! smile)..........the avocado eggroll as an appetizer cannot be topped by anything else in this world!

We had a wonderful time.........delicious and beautifully prepared dishes.........Violet ate bread along with Aunt Jenny until her tummy thumped like a small ripe melon......The new  City Creek area was so sunny and beautiful to walk through!

Sunday, my sister and her husband had mom (Grandma Perkins) and myself up to their home in North Ogden for a barbeque.  It was wonderful getting mom out for a while, she does well walker and all as she continues to work on getting her feet healed.

Sunday night, got my Troy-text............if you haven't received texting from Troy..........you don't know what you've missed!!!............So this Mother's Day, I think the only meal I fixed was grapenuts & bananas before leaving for Church~~yep, if you live long enough...........Mother's Day becomes a lot funner and EASIER!!

I'm so blessed with the mother's in my life.............I love my dear mom and her patience with the suffering she has endured these many months.  I love sweet Judy, an example of such faith and love of the Lord and I absolutely love all the young mother's in my family, Amy, Jill, Cher, Stacey, Jen.......you all amaze me at your talents and love and sacrifice you make for your families!!

Bless4

I enjoyed a wonderful devotional with the performance of a Japanese brother/sister group called BLESS 4
yesterday.  There are 2 brothers and two sisters ranging in age from 20 to 28.  They are amazing dancers/singers!!  Remind me of the early Osmonds......They have a number 1 song "Dandelion" in Japan and have done music backup for work on Disney films like Stitch, etc.  They only made their debut as recording artists in 2003, so are quite new but really amazing!  They wrote up a contract before signing with any record company, explaining that they would not perform on Sundays, as they would be attending their church meetings, would not promote in any performances, immoral activities, sex, drugs, etc.  During a summer tour the producer came in and said to them, "ok kids, it's summer you need to show some skin".  They refused and reminded the producer of their contract.

Their parents met at BYU and spent ten years in the states - explaining why their children speak English beautifully.  They live in Kawasaki, Japan since 1997 but tour all over the world.  They do great original  pop music as well as beautiful gospel music like I am a child of God.  They have done numerous fundraisers for the people of Northern Japan who were devastated with the earthquake and tsunami.

At the end of the program, they asked their mother to bear her testimony...........when she concluded there was not a dry eye!   Her mother grew up in Japan the 4th of 8 children.  Her father was a very unhappy alcoholic.  She was very frightened of him when he was drunk.  She never felt loved by her father.  When she was 11 yrs old, he died.  Ten years later she joined the LDS Church.  One night after she had her father's temple work done, she awoke in the middle of the night and her father was kneeling at her bed.  He was crying and telling her how sorry he was for the way he had treated her.  She said he kept bowing and tears were running down his face.  Then one of the times he was bowing and lifted his head his tears went from sorrow to joy and he said to her "thank you".   She said it was an incredible thing to know that her father loved her.  She said it was a testimony to her that our Heavenly Father never, ever gives up on us. ~~

General Conference

Wow, when they announced the 2nd counselor in the new Presiding Bishopric..........I was surprised, Dean Davies, now "Bishop Davies" is 2nd counselor in our stake presidency!!  So our stake's loss will be the whole church's gain.

Bishop Davies was also the Director over special projects/real estate where I work so I think he is very well prepared by the Lord for this calling.  We are all happy for him here in Natural Resources and wish him the very best!

Elder Hallstrom, Elder Holland and Elder Uchtdorf's talks were all especially meant for me!  I also burst into tears when after the Sunday morning session the choir's rendition of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" ended...........the spirit was alive in my little living room ~~ how I love our dear Savior and want to seal my heart to His!

A good friend and I went to the morning session on Saturday, we had nose bleed section tickets and wound up listening to the second half on temple square in the warm sunshine and wonderful breeze!  Good thing we did it on Saturday because Sunday was typical April conference weather, umbrellas and all!

It was a great spiritual booster shot for all of us!  I'm going to get my highlighter out and read them again~~!

Write down a question~~~

I always look so forward to General Conference.  It is like the feeling I used to get going to Education Week a long time ago when my kids were small.  It was R&R  - not must rest, but the refreshing of spirit was never lost on me....I came home ready to hit the road running!

My Home Teacher challenged me to write down a question that I have, something that has been troubling me in my life or something that I have been praying about and have not received an answer to~~

He said, "I can almost guarantee that one of the addresses in General Conference will answer that question."

I think we all should try it~~!........he could be right.

It was quite an interesting commentary on sports, entrepreneurial expertise, his reactivation into the Church, family, fatherhood, money, cars, Jazz, etc.......one of my favorite quotes in it was!!!.........(sorry, I don't know to whom to give credit but it is a good one~~)

"When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power"

Grandma Perkins, also known as Great-Grandma, Mom & Barbara........has been going back and forth from the hospital to rehab now for 3+ months.  It is quite the battle to get all infection cleared up on her feet.  Of course that ruthless and mean-spirited disease of DIABETES doesn't help matters!!

Microsoft Founder, NFL Owner, Paul Allen speaks out on Mormons~

Paul Allen is the owner of the Seattle Seahawks, the ones who played
the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Super Bowl a few years ago. He is also
the owner of the Portland Trail Blazers NBA basketball team and is
co-partner with Bill Gates in Microsoft. He wrote this editorial in the
Santa Clarita, California newspaper:

I have heard and seen enough! I have lived in the West all my life. I
have worked around them. They have worked for me and I for them. When I
was young, I dated their daughters. When I got married they came to my
wedding. Now that I have daughters of my own, some of their boys have
dated my daughters. I would be
privileged if one of them were to be my son-in-law.

I'm talking about the Mormons.

They are some of the most honest, hardworking people I have ever known.
They are spiritual, probably more than most other so-called religious
people I have encountered. They study the Bible and teach from it as
much as any Christian church ever has. They serve their religion
without pay in every conceivable capacity. Not one of their leaders,
teachers, counselors, Bishops or music directors receive one dime for
the hours of labour they put in.

The Mormons have a non-paid ministry - a fact that is not generally
known. I have heard many times from the pulpits of others how evil and
non-Christian they are and that they will not go to heaven. I decided
recently to attend one of their services near my home to see for
myself.

What a surprise!

What I heard and saw was just the opposite from what the religious
ministers of the day were telling me. I found a very simple service
with no fanfare. I found a people with a great sense of humour and a
well-balanced spiritual side. There was no loud music. Just a simple
service, with the members themselves giving the several short sermons.

They urge their youth to be morally clean and live a good life. They
teach the gospel of Christ, as they understand it. The name of their
church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. Does that
sound like a non-Christian church to you? I asked them many questions
about what they teach and why. I got answers that in most cases were
from the New Testament. Their ideas and doctrines did not seem too far
fetched for my understanding. When I read their "Book of Mormon" I was
also very surprised to find just the opposite from what I had been told
I would find.

Then I went to another church's pastor to ask him some of the same
questions about doctrine. To my surprise, when he found out that I was
in some way investigating the Mormons, he became hostile. He referred
to them as a non-Christian cult. I received what sounded to me like
evil propaganda against those people. He stated bluntly that they were
not Christian and that they did not fit into the Christian mold. He
also told me that they don't really believe the Bible. He gave me a
pile of anti-Mormon literature. He began to rant that the Mormons were
not telling me the truth about what they stand for. He didn't want to
hear anything good about them. At first I was surprised and then again,
I wasn't. I began to wonder.

I have never known of a cult that supports the Boy Scouts of America.
According to the Boy Scouts, over a third of all the Boy Scout troops
in the United States are Mormon.

What cult do you know of that has a welfare system second to none in
this country? They have farms, canneries and cattle ranches to help
take care of the unfortunate ones who might be down and out and in need
of a little help. The Mormon Church has donated millions to welfare
causes around the world without a word of credit. They have donated
thousands to help rebuild Baptist churches that were burned a few years
ago. They have donated tons of medical supplies to countries ravaged by
earthquakes.

You never see them on TV begging for money.. What cult do you know that
instills in its members to obey the law, pay their taxes, serve in the
military if asked and be a good Christian by living high moral
standards? Did you know that hundreds of thousands of Mormon youth get
up before high school starts in the morning to attend a religious
training class? They have basketball and softball leagues and
supervised youth dances every month.

They are recruited by the FBI, the State Department and every police
department in the country, because they are Trustworthy. They are
taught not to drink nor take
drugs. They are in the Secret Service - those who protect the
President. They serve in high leadership positions from both parties in
Congress and in the US Senate, and have been governors of several
states other than Utah. They serve with distinction and honour.

If you have Mormons living near, you will probably find them to be your
best friends and neighbours. They are Christians who try to live what
they preach. They are not perfect and they are the first to admit this.
I have known some of them who could not live their religion, just like
many of us. The rhetoric which is spread around against them is nothing
more than evil propaganda founded in untruths. (Others) had
successfully demonized them to the point that the general public has no
idea what they actually believe and teach.. If you really want to know
the truth, go see for yourself. You also will be surprised.

When I first moved here some 25 years ago there were five Mormon wards
in Santa Clarita, Calif. Now there are 15. They must be doing something
right.

"The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything.
.... They just make the best of everything."

HAPPY New Year!!!

Back at work after two weeks out~~ whew................is this really what I used to do? (smile)

Wishing all of my wonderful children and grandchildren Happy New Year and a very grateful "thank you" for their help recovering after surgery!!

New Year's resolution, Jenny inspired me to get up and read my scriptures early in the morning......instead of sleepily at night.  I started this morning and what a difference in the gratitude I feel for the Savior of the World and all he has blessed me with!!!   I recommend it to anyone looking to start their New Year each morning in a new way!!
