Apathy = lack of feeling or emotion, lack of interest or concern, indifference.
This has been a prevailing theme lately in my life, perhaps because I needed to think about it....Our Bishop gave a most energetic and impassioned plea against apathy among members of the Church and in particular to our ward a couple of weeks ago, including the youth. I also have been talking to a co-worker of mine and he shared some scriptures from the D&C that kind of jumped out at him. As I read and pondered them, they revealed to me how the Lord feels about apathy as connected with how important the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be in our lives.
D&C 112: 23-26 Verily, verily, I say unto you, darkness covereth the earth, and gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has become corrupt before my face. Behold vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whilwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, said the Lord. And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord; First among those among you, said the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.
I believe this is telling us, that indifference starts within the members of the Church first......the fence sitting is over. Choose ye this day whom you will serve ....
I get a little more relaxed as summer comes, in every way. I hope that I can avoid being indifferent or lack the feeling I should have for something as important as following the Savior who put everything on the line for me. Prophecy can be turned away....."even though your sins be scarlet, they can become white as snow"....... prophecy is given us so that we can avoid pitfalls as we keep the commandments. We can be recipients of His mercy.
I don't know what the antonym of apathy is? ................ But LOVE comes to mind as the generator to keep it at bay.
